In case you have an email address with your own domain instead of a third-party one, you will be able to make use of an email app such as Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird to check and manage your emails. The benefit of using such apps is that you can also take advantage of other features, such as address books and calendars. There are two email delivery protocols that you can choose from when you configure the app of your choice to access your email account – POP3 and IMAP. With the first one, all email messages that are received will be downloaded to your device – mobile or desktop, unless you decide to keep a copy on the email server. With the second protocol, the messages will be displayed locally at your end, but they will remain on the server all the time, so you can set up the email account on multiple devices and view the email messages from any place. You will also be able to check old emails in case there is an issue with your Internet connection, which is an advantage over web-based services.
